PALEO DIET BOOKS
There are so many great books related to the Paleo Diet it is hard to choose just 6 to talk about, but for the sake of simplicity, this is what I’m going to do. Here are my top 6 reads:
The Paleo Diet: Lose Weight and Get Healthy by Eating the Foods You Were Designed to Eat Loren Cordain, PhD
The Primal Blueprint Mark Sisson
Protein Power: The High-Protein/Low-Carbohydrate Way to Lose Weight, Feel Fit, and Boost Your Health–in Just Weeks! Michael and Mary Dan Eades, Phd’s
The New Evolution Diet: What Our Paleolithic Ancestors Can Teach Us about Weight Loss, Fitness, and Aging
Art DeVany, PhD
The Paleo Solution: The Original Human Diet Robb Wolf
Good Calories, Bad Calories: Fats, Carbs, and the Controversial Science of Diet and Health
Gary Taubes
I chose these books mainly because the authors are regarded as the most authoritative figures in the field. They are classic reads and will most likely remain timeless masterpieces until robots take over the world or the sun burns out.
You can also visit the Paleo Diet and Living Amazon store for books that didn’t round out the top 6 but are still highly recommended.

What do you think of The Paleo Diet for Athletes: A Nutritional Formula for Peak Athletic Performance? Is it really necessary to modify the diet and break the rules, so to speak, in order to reap the benefits if you are an amateur athlete? Would the other books serve just as well?
Jon,
I think it depends on your sport and your goals. If whatever you do is akin to sprinting, you likely won’t need to modify your diet much. If you are an endurance runner/cyclist/ etc. you will likely need some more carbs to be competitive. Good carbs though, sweet potato, fruit, and maybe some “gray area” grains like quiniao. Personally, I do well with a little extra carbs (mainly sweet potato) and just eat a lot of fat! I think the book is still worth reading to help you experiment and try some of your own ideas. best,
greg
