PALEO DIET

Of all the paleo topics out there, the paleo diet is probably the most sought after, as well as the most confusing.  You may have also heard it called the Caveman diet, the Primal Diet, the Hunter-Gatherer diet, or even sometimes incorrectly as the Atkins Diet, Southbeach Diet, Mediterranean Diet, or Zone Diet. The first thing to get straight is this: it’s not a diet, at least not in the traditional sense. A better way to think about it is Paleo Nutrition, or maybe even “Eat Like a Caveman”. Remember, I’m not a scientist, just an everyday athlete. If you want to see the studies, the evidence, and all other forms of data that validate the diet, I can certainly point you in the right direction. My goal, however, is to present the information in such a way that a 6th grader could understand it. After all, if we could instill these concepts in our children, the world would be a healthier place!

I’ve been told I have low serotonin and to eat carbohydrates with my protein. I am putting on weight which I don’t want. How do I keep my serotonin up on this way of eating. Thank you, Amaeta

Amaeta. Fruits and vegetables are carbohydrates! I too have low serotonin. And have no problem with the Paleo style of eating. I also find, eating better (less sugar, junk food, and grain type carbs, etc) makes me feel a lot better in general..

I have low serotonin also. I take a supplement called 5-HTP, which helps with serotonin production. Some reputable brands are Natrol, Doctor’s Best, NOW, etc.

Thanks so much for the awesome website. I am about to start going Paleo, well trying to cut out the sugar and grains mainly and it has been so useful on the does and don’t. I also like that you a realist and understand that some people might still eat or try things that not supposed to on the odd ocassion.
